All You Need to Know About Packing Fragile Items

1. Prepare in advance

2. Make use of proper packing materials

3. Pack your breakables correctly

Glasses – Use packing paper to wrap each glass and then fill the empty space with crumpled paper. Place the heaviest items at the bottom and lighter on the top in a box lined with packing paper.

Paintings/Pictures/Frames – Individually pack the pictures and frames and then place them in a small or medium box lined with paper. If the frame is 8 inches or more, insert crumpled paper in between each piece. Fill the empty spaces with packing paper to ensure that the pieces do not move when in transit.

Lamps – The parts of the lampshade should be packed separately with lots of paper. Place them in the box with the flat side down. Use bubble wrap wherever required.

Plates – Use bubble wrap to wrap each place and then secure it with a tape. Place these wrapped plates vertically in a small or a medium box lined with crumpled paper at the top and the bottom.
Ensure that while stacking the plates in the box, you are placing the paper in between the plates. Fill up whatever spaces you can see with crumpled paper, packing peanuts, or old t-shirts.

Specialty items – To pack large fragile items which are oddly shaped, it’s important to consider the shape and size of the item. Wrap each item separately in bubble wrap and secure it with tape. Put the packed item on a pliable cardboard and then place another piece of pliable cardboard on top of the item. Bend the ends of the cardboard till they meet and then secure them with the tape. If required, wrap the entire piece with the tape to ensure that the item is stable and packed snugly.

The next step is to place the packed piece in a box lined with paper, similar in size as the packed object. Fill the empty spaces between the box and the packed object with crumpled paper. The last step is to secure the box with tape and label it as fragile.
